Do we really look like our pets? You tell me...

You have undoubtedly heard the saying that "pet owners tend to look like their pets,"  Well I would agree...don't Miss Piggy and I look alike...(other than the fact that I have two eyes and she only has one)?

"Me"
"Piggy"

In reality we don't look a thing like each other -on the outside, but I learned today that we do in fact look very much like each other on the inside.  If you read my previous post about discovering that my fur-baby Piggy has what is called a Galloping Heart Rythym, then you know that today we drove 2 hours away down to Phoenix to meet with an animal Cardioligist to find out what is causing this condition.  From everything that I have read over the last 48 hours of scouring the internet for information, the prognosis is almost always heart disease with death coming within 1 month to 2 years because of heart failure.

At the dr appointment this morning Piggy was given a Cardio-ultrasound.  Simply an ultrasound of her heart.  The doctor gave us some really great news...Piggy does not have heart disease.  However, he did find that she has Mitral Valve Prolapse because of a thick Mitral Valve flap that doesn't close completely, therefore allowing a very small amount of blood to go backwards in the Mitral Valve.  Nothing that we need to worry really about, but she will need to get antibiotics when she has dental work and such.  The funny thing is...I have Mitral Valve Prolapse as well!  I was diagnosed with it when I was 17 years old and have never had a problem because of it, other then at times of stress (emotional or otherwise).

So it seems that Miss Piggy and I may not look like each other on the outside...but we certainly do on the inside!

Now that we can breathe a huge sigh of relief, I want to say a special "Thank You" to everyone who sent Prayers, positive energy, and well wishes Piggy's way over the last few days.  It helped to keep me calm until we had confirmation today that she is going to be just fine and I am sure that my remaining calm helped her to stay calm as well.

Wishing you and your fur-babies a Happy Healthy Life!

  1. I've been told that I look like a golden retriever (I have red hair). I love looking at people and their resemblences to their dogs - so many times it's truly uncanny!

  2. The resemblance between my pup and me stops at our blonde hair. OR so I hope!
